For over five hundred years, the Colonial City of Santo Domingo has been the meeting point between cultures of the Old and New World, hence becoming the Genesis of what is known today as the Americas. The settlers who migrated to this promising land and lived here in past times, the events that occurred and wrote their history have produced, as result, a unique architectural heritage.
All this richness has evolved throughout the centuries and is presented today as witness and protagonist of scenery we can show proudly to locals and visitors, with their peculiar details and tales, greatly enjoyed by those lovers of history, culture and art.
Our historical manors, a heritage that housed the families and daily life of the Dominicans of yesteryear, have been useful to its original owners and, according to the history told by the materials used for their construction and architecture, have served myriad generations. Some, though modified according to the taste and circumstances of their occupants, have made it to present times. Today, they are reason for admiration, and it is our most noble posture to maintain these properties in paramount condition so that current as well as future generations can get to know them and appreciate them.
VICINI has the mission of creating value and impacting positively in the sustainable development of the communities in which we invest. This is the reason why the preservation and enhancement of the Colonial City of Santo Domingo is of such great importance to us. Visanto Properties, a company in which VICINI has assets under management, has structured an executive and professional team, deeply committed to creating value in all of the Colonial City properties it oversees.
The pages of this book and its appendices compile a delightful visual panorama, masterfully photographed and presented in an attractive design through which we aim to display the vast architectural richness these properties possess. Likewise, we seek to present the evolution that architecture experienced as centuries went by in our city, and the treasured restoration work carried out by the team responsible for their upkeep.
The formulated and implemented projects, per the results we will view in the following pages, are an exemplary sample of the type of interventions that need to be made in a historical landmark and national pride, included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list.
